Information & Communications Technology
ICT at Caedmon School is viewed as an essential skill for learning. Its use is central to the new curriculum orders and because of this we have invested heavily in ICT hardware and software. For this reason we now have 4 fully equipped computer suites.
We believe that students should be given the opportunity to use ICT in a range of different contexts to question, research and create. In order to do this students are given the opportunity to experience a broad range of software applications and to use a range of different hardware including scanners, cameras, and video cameras.
During ICT lessons our students are encouraged to be independent in their learning and to use the skills and knowledge gained to enhance their problem solving ability in all other curriculum areas. They follow a programme which encompasses all of the major areas of ICT including:
- Word processing
- Desktop Publishing
- Website Creation
- Graphic Manipulation
Pupils at Caedmon School are exposed to a vast amount of ICT throughout the curriculum, both taught discretely and cross curricular. Because of this pupils can progress at an accelerated pace in ICT. To ensure progression is maintained at the highest level, the more able year 9 students are given the opportunity to study an additional OCR National Module that will enable them to gain a full GCSE equivalence. They complete the course within year 9. The course encourages the investigation and study of Information and Communication Technology in a variety of contexts: home, school, recreation, community, business and industry.
Students will complete the mandatory unit 1 in their timetabled ICT lessons. A group students who have opted to take ICT in our Wednesday afternoon options sessions will also complete unit 2, Web Design and unit 21, Web Graphics.
