3.30pm SCHOOL CLOSES FOR SUMMER
Cædmon School is responsible for delivery of Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum. We
deliver this through a two week timetable that incorporates 50 x 1 hour sessions. Each subject is taught in 1 hour lessons except Technology which will be taught in two hour sessions. In year 9, students will have the opportunity to take an external qualification in ICT. Each subject is allocated the following lessons within each fortnight.
The options afternoon gives pupils the chance to study a subject in more depth and work towards some specific qualifications such as ICT, General Studies, Arts Award, Sports Leaders etc.
On a number of days throughout the year, all pupils participate in a variety of enrichment days. The aim of this is to immerse pupils in one theme for the whole day. Year 7 topics are based locally, year 8 nationally and year 9 look at the impact globally. Recent topics have included ‘Every drop of water counts’; ‘My place in the world’ and ‘Independent living and life management’.
Each student is issued with a personal planner in which they are expected to record their homework. Using the planner, you will be able to keep a close check on those tasks we expect your child to complete as part of our homework regime. Homework consists of long and short tasks and details of the long tasks are issued each term in the newsletter. Clearly we consider homework to be extremely important and we hope you will, where possible, support your child in this work. Various rooms are open at lunchtime where students may do their work. On three lunchtimes and four evenings after school we also run a homework club in the library.
