Children in Need 2013

We have raised a magnificent £665.42 for Children in Need this year. We had a non-uniform day where pupils and staff were encouraged to wear something spotty. A karaoke was held at lunch time and wrist bands were sold. There was also a 'spotty nail bar' held at lunchtime. There were two competitions running for the best decorated Pudsey and the best dressed bear. Pupils have also been placing 5p pieces onto a paper Pudsey and the form with the most money raised won a prize. Thank you to everyone who supported the day.

Cancer Research

This year the Prom Committee decided that their chosen charity would be Cancer Research. As well as the Prom in July, in June the school held a pink themed non-uniform day and a bun bake. These three events raised £415.00 for Cancer Research. A big thank you to the Prom Committee, staff, parents, pupils and Home and School Association members who helped to make these events such a success.

Christmas Charity Collections

The collection during the Carols for All service on 21 December was taken in aid of Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough. We are pleased to say that, together with a collection in the staff room, £275.00 has been sent to them. An amount of £30.00 has also been sent to the Great North Air Ambulance.

Children in Need
Caedmon School students enjoyed a fun filled day of activities in order to raise money for this year's Children in Need Appeal. The day got off to a colourful start with a non uniform day. Many students were dressed in their onesie's in preparation for the sponsored onesie race at lunchtime. This was fiercely contested ending with a photo finish.
There was also a Karaoke with both students and staff taking part. This event was enjoyed by all with some very good talent on show.

There were a number of other competitions taking place throughout the day, including 'Design a Pudsey', 'Guess the Name of the Teddy Bear' and the selling of Children in Need wristbands.

Overall we raised £530.00 for the Appeal. A big thank you to everyone.

Convoy Aid Romania
Thank you to all who sent in Christmas Boxes as part of our annual Convoy Aid Romania 2012 Appeal. Every year Convoy aid delivers thousands of boxes to children and elderly people in need in Romania. The charity has now been set up for 21 years and we have supported them for a number of years, both with the Christmas boxes and other appeals such as the Easter Seeds Appeal.

Pearl of Africa Childrens' Choir
As reported on the home page, the Pearl of Africa Childrens' Choir came to Caedmon as part of their UK tour to raise much needed funds for the Molly and Paul Child Care Foundation in Uganda who currently have over 2,200 children in their care. The funds help to run seven schools and homes. Pearl of AfricaThe aim of the Foundation is to improve the health, education and welfare of people suffering through disease, war and poverty in Uganda and since its inception they have provided a better start in life to many thousands of orphaned and destitute children. Over £1,400 was raised by Caedmon and overall in this area over £10,000 was raised which will pay for all the teachers in all seven schools for the next three months. We will keep you updated on the progress of Elvis, the little boy of six who Caedmon will be sponsoring.

Year 9 Prom
The Year 9 Prom was once again a huge success. This year’s theme was ‘Hawaii’, with students trying to stay upright on the surf simulator or get under the limbo pole without knocking it off. The students were able to really get into the Hawaiian mood buying lei flower garlands to accessorise their prom outfits.
As well as the activities that were held on the night, the Year 9 Prom Committee also organise two bun bake sales and a Non-uniform day which raised a total of £700 towards their chosen Prom charity which this year was the RNLI.

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue
A non uniform day was held on the last day of term with the funds going to the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue team. A total of £110 was raised.

Friends of Mettapalayum Trust
The school has an ongoing link with a school in India. Caedmon School raise funds each year to support ‘The Caedmon Class’ in the Nambiki School. The money raised pays for the teacher and the resources needed for the ‘Caedmon Class’ for the whole year.
Caedmon School hosted an adult/child talent night in the summer term. Every act that took part in the talent show had to consist of at least one adult and one child. There was also a concert held at Easter to raise money for the ‘Friends of Mettapalayum’ who are a group of people who support several charitable projects in the area of Mettapalayum, which was devastated in the tsunami. Caedmon School again raised the £600 for ‘The Caedmon Class’ which is the total sum of money needed for the class for the year. This is an ongoing commitment that Caedmon School have to the Nambiki School.

Sport Relief 2012
Caedmon School once again hosted the The Whitby Mile in aid of Sport Relief. It passed through and took in the sights of Whitby Abbey, Esk Valley and the Whitby to Scarborough disused railway. All the money raised will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
We also held a table top sale in the school gym. There were bouncy castles, ice-cream, face painting and cafe facilities which kept everyone entertained throughout the morning’s events. Whitby Leisure Centre kindly delivered warm-ups to all participants prior to their event.
Participants could choose their own distance, from 1, 3 or 6 miles, and completed it in any way they fancied. From teeny tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there was something for everyone on the day.

Christmas Shoe Boxes
68 shoe boxes full of gifts for Christmas left Caedmon School on Friday 4 November on their journey to Romania. These boxes are taken to poor children from non-income families and old people, are taken directly and given personally. Many thanks to all who donated gifts for this worthwhile cause.
